SITE FOR SORE EYES
|
| May 2008 |
Since coming to Sydney, I've had a couple of months off, just looking for work and sorting a place to live. Summer here wasn't great, so when the clouds came out, I turned into a hermit and had a go at rebuilding my site, simply because I enjoy doing it. The free homepage software that comes with a Mac, iWeb, can make good-looking sites quickly and easily, but when your pages start getting heavier, text is converted to images and it all slows down and turns into an absolute nightmare. Seeing as my current job's loosely based around keywords and the Internet, I thought I'd have a go at rebuilding my site from scratch using Dreamweaver, Netfirms hosting and messing around with keywords so that eventually, when someone types "Rich Tarrant" into Google, they can see some of the best body popping on the Internet.
Look Chloe, daddy's doing the robot!! Daddy = ROBOT!!
I used Google Analytics to collect stats from the old homepage - it's pretty impresive how much info it can collect on how many people looked at my site, how they found it, how long they stayed on each page and even where they live down to the town name. The content is almost the same, but have added a few new photos and movie clips here and there, so have a look at the older posts too as chances are, you're in one of them. The photos page is easier for me to manage now - if I take any interesting photos and put them on Flickr, they automatically get updated here too. The 'Photos of U' section is like Facebook - just click on your name and it should show any photos I have of you. This probably looks like it took ages to make, tagging everyone.... which it did, but when you're unemployed, it's raining outside and your only friend in the country is at work, small things entertain small minds!
I took 95% of the photos on the site and edited most of them with Photoshop. Incidentally, the one above hasn't been tampered with at all - the outline of the sitting man was drawn with the light from an ipod.
The Flash sequence on the front page isn't my own work - I'm not that much of a geek! ...I just did the logo and the images and altered the code...
It's not going to be like a blog as I don't want to spend any more time infront of a computer than I do already, just a few words and pictures now and then. Hope you enjoy it. |
